the free & spoiler-free preview of my upcoming album
Hi. It's been a while, again.
Last month, I participated in a really sweet event where I got to read to people. Intimate, surprising, inspiring. You can read more about it on my site.
First, though, I invite to play some background music for your reading, in the form of my upcoming album!
If you're wondering why I'm doing this preview –
The short answer:
It's a concept album, so there's a very specific thematic structure. Of course, knowing the concept isn't required to enjoy the music. But once you know, you can't un-know, y'know?
The long answer:
I absolutely love knowing an artist's intentions and ideas behind any sort of work (book, album, painting, etc). But I also love to have my own impressions first, before I know the things I can't un-know. So, if you're like me and want to experience the music without knowing the concept, I want you to have that option.
So, this week is the opportunity to experience the music before the concept is disclosed.
(At this point, only 2 listeners know the concept—the recording engineer and the graphic designer for the album art—and it's been hard to keep the secret! I'm so excited to share. But I do really want you to listen before it's released, if you want.)
And to the very generous and thoughtful early listeners – I hope you find this much improved from the test tracks I sent a few months ago. I definitely do, and your feedback shaped my choices. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
The release date is June 20th, which is summer solstice and the eve of full moon. For the next week, you can listen on Soundcloud.
Unrelated to my album, I've had people ask for recommendations about learning more about activism, as there are many excellent resources readily available.
However, there are also plenty of people with the right talking points who are simultaneously peddling antisemitism and Islamaphobia.
If you want direct, no BS education and wisdom, I recommend Jewish Voices for Peace (an advocacy group) and Qasim Rashid (a human rights lawyer). I follow both on Instagram and I'm subscribed to both email lists. Their content is also on Substack, if you want to subscribe to those newsletters.
Signing off with the reminder to take deep breaths and savor the present. That's how we heal and how we create a better world. I'm off for a few days on that unique retreat opportunity I mentioned in the previous love note. I'm looking forward to the joy of simple spaces and the deep medicine of nature.
Happy listening and happy reading.
Blessings,
S.
